Holy Wednesday

by | Apr 6, 2023

Luke tells us that “every day He (Jesus) was teaching in the temple,” However, Holy Wednesday is also referred to as a day of rest for Jesus.

While Jesus rests in Bethany at the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus, the high priest & the authorities are plotting to kill Him. The enemy is devising plans to kill The King of Glory, yet He rests. This makes me think of Psalm 2, which describes how the world’s leaders conspire together and strategize to throw God off and remove Him from His place of authority.
Psalm 2:4-6 shows God’s response:
4 He who sits in heaven laughs!
Adonai mocks them.
5 So He will speak to them in His anger,
and terrify them in His fury:
6 “I have set up My king
upon Zion, My holy mountain.”

This Wednesday of Holy Week, let us remember that when world leaders conspire together and strategize on how to remove God, His Truth, and His people…God remains on The Throne in heaven. There truly is no one like Jehovah. Things may feel like they are spinning out of control. Chaos, confusion, war, and darkness may be pressing in around us; yet His counsel still remains the same: “Be still and know that I AM God.” Psalm 46:10

While Jesus was in Bethany, Mary anointed Jesus’ feet with costly perfume & dried His feet with her hair. Luke tells us that the house was filled with the fragrance of oil. May we take time today to lavish our love upon our Lord and fill our hearts, homes, and church with the fragrance of our love and worship for Him.

Wednesday of Holy Week was also the day in which Satan entered Judas, and from that moment on, he sought an opportunity to betray The King of Glory. This reminds us that every person must choose whom they will follow, worship and surrender to. Satan comes to sift every one of us like wheat. The enemy of our souls works relentlessly to turn us away from worshiping and serving The King of Glory. We must choose each day to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Jesus passionately.

Our prayer today: Lord Jesus, I choose You, today and every day of my life, I choose to worship You, serve You, obey You, follow You, and love You. Holy Spirit, lead me into deeper, extravagant worship of The King of Kings. Mary poured her love upon Jesus with total abandon when she poured the costly perfume upon His feet and dried His feet with her hair. Today, I want to lavish my love upon my precious Lord and demonstrate my devotion to Him in a greater way. Holy Spirit, lead me, guide me, anoint me, and empower me to love God more and to follow God more passionately. I desire to go deeper. I begin by simply declaring: I LOVE YOU, LORD, WITH ALL MY HEART, SOUL, MIND, AND STRENGTH, I LOVE YOU! I will also rest in Your amazing love for me; knowing that even when I’m in the middle of the storm, You are with me, and You are The Lord.
